Welcome to another week of interviews from Con-Tamination 2011. This week we have Dan Shor; he was in the original Tron with Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, as-well-as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Star Trek, and many other films. He was kind enough to give us some of his time, and I really hope you enjoy the interview. RAM-LIVES!
E-mail Disney everyone and get him a part in the upcoming Tron projects. Fans can do it! Here's the link!
Tron 3 coming soon? Man I hope so; I really enjoyed Tron:Legacy and I look forward to seeing more from that universe. Here is a 10 plus minute preview, or concept, for Tron 3: Flynn Lives. Enjoy!
Looking forward to the upcomming Holiday season I was wondering what was everyone looking forward to. I think for any hardcore, old school nerd, it would have to be the movie, Tron: Legacy.
Ever sinse the first pirated footage from Comicon was released a couple years ago people have been buzzing about what this movie could possible be like, and with it coming put in just the next couple of weeks I thoughts I share my impressions of what I've seen so far.
First of all I really loved the original; the film was not well recieved, but it deffinately has a charm. The look of the film encapsulates the feel of what being inside a computer could be like. The people's skin tone and the color palatte reflected a very digital look. It was great. Plus there were all the fun animated effects like the recognizers, the tanks, and of course the light cycles.
The new film, look to have advanced the look of the world, which is fine, but it has also lost something in its evolution. The lightcycles look more sleek and bad-ass, which I would expect; as do the recognizers. The character costumes have also become a little more sophisticated; again they are stylized in the theme of the original, but they look simpler. The one glaring difference, however, is the face the characters faces and bodies don't make you feel as though you're in the computer world. First of all, there's hair; in the original film the only hair you saw on any of the computer characters was the tower gaurdian, who had a beard. Everyone else wore helmets. Also their skin tones in the film make them seem more real, than almost any computer generated character I've ever seen. All of their surroundings look like sets, they don't look computer generated. Everything has the most of the "look" of Tron, but not the same feel. It's missing a little gritiness.
But what I think matter more than anything else in the film, and what I congratulate them on keeping so secret, is the story. The film has the same writer as the first movie, so I'm very hopeful the film follows the first nicely. I'm interested what has been going on in that world sinse we last were there.
One of the biggest questions I have is, will Tron be in Tron? Many people who haven't seen the original might not know this, but Tron was a program in the first film who wasn't played by Jeff Bridges, but by Bruce Boxleitner, who is in the film in the real world. He's the guy who tells Flynn's son about the call he recieved fromthe old arcade. I have to wonder, if they did the same amazing effects on Bruce to make him look younger as they did on Jeff. It'd be a nice surprise to see a young Tron running around in the film.
Overall I'm hopefull for the film, but cautious at the same time. And on a side note, I don't think, from what I've seen, that the film being in 3D will do anything for it. So far Disney, in my opinion, has been less than impressive with their use of the 3D technology. So what are you thoughts on the film? Do you share my concerns? Drop a comment at let me know. I'm gonna close out today's issue of the Times by imbedding the trailers from the original and the sequel below for your comparison. Enjoy!
