Tales From the Table

In this Thursday's edition I'd like to hear people's stories about playing with unscrupulous die rollers. As I mentioned in the Tuesday Tip, people changing their die rolls is why we instituted the Arena of Fate die rolling box. I played with a very crafty fudger in the past. This player always would roll the die behind their hand to screen the result from the GM. Why you ask? Any GM worth their salt would want to see the result so why hide it. Well it was for two reasons; if they rolled a good result the hand would immediately come away to show their roll. If they had a result that was not good, upon lifting their hand to show the result they would brush the die rolling it over to another number. Bullshit you say, couldn't possibly work! Well I'd agree if I hadn't seen it done with my own eyes. I was sitting at angle that gave me a line of site to the roll, and the change. It was pretty amazing stuff.

Have you ever played with a cheating die roller? If so post your story in the comments or you can e-mail them to us at GameKnightsPodcast@gmail.com

Tales From the Table

What was the first game system you ever ran, and how'd it go? Me it was the old red box set basic Dungeons & Dragons. I made the classic mistakes of dumping tons of treasure in to the adventure as well as magical items. At the end of my one night scenario my single player had enough xp, gold, and weapons to retire his character to his own keep. It was complete Monty Hall GMing at its finest, but I remember it being fun.

Tales From the Table

What kind of character's do you usually enjoy playing? Myself, I really enjoy warriors in just about any game; I think everyone really likes to klick some ass and take names. My characters usually wind up being a bit mouthy as well. I guess I'm force to bite my tongue enough in every day life that when I start playing, eventually, I get pretty sarcastic. I also like playing some more odd-ball characters like kids, elderly people, or strange alternative races. My friends will also say that I like to min/max my character pretty hard. Like in Serenity I sacrifice being able to take much if any damage to have some really high skills in piloting, surgery, and mechanics. Some GM's really get bent out of shape when a playing does things like that with their character, but I just see it as making the best character I can, and hopefully through advancement, I can improve them in places where they're lacking.

Tales From the Table

In todays Tales I'd like to hear stories of humorous moments in campaigns or about a humor campaign. I'm going to share one of from a friend of mine. Their GM had set up this adventure where they had entered this town where everyone was "happy" almost to the point of tears and there were these giant white fuzzy...things...like cartoony mascots walking around hugging people. When the mascots would hug people they would whimper "Kill me" or "Help me". Come to find out the town was under the rule of a tyranical dictator who demanded happiness and if anyone defied his rule they got turned in to the white fluffy "Huggy Mascots" for all eternity. so their job was to bring down the happiness empire!

If you've got a great Tale to share, post it below. Or e-mail it to us at GameKnightsPodcast@gmail.com and I'll put it up for you!

Tales From the Table

This week I'd like to the topic to be kind of stem from this week's Tuesday Tip of the Week, which is character death. Have you ever had a character die in a game? I have many, many times. In fact the first module I ever played with the first character I ever made, my character died at the end.

We had made it through this large castle, if memory serves, and in the final room of the castle we came to a room full of planum statues. Now I was young and new the statues were vaulable, but it wasn't til much later did I truely understand how much. Anyway, the roof of the room was lit bright by what looked to be a great magical portal. I had the NPC range who was with us fire an arrow up in to the light to see what would happen. The did fall, immediately. so I used a spell and hovered up and in to the light to see what laid beyond. Well just as I was passing in to the light, I saw the arrow fall and it was glimmering. Unable to stop my action, however, I passed in to the light. My character was transformed in to a platnum statue and I fell to the floor and broke. Thus was my first, and very memorable, character deaths.
