Everyman needs love, and Paul has two: Kicking ass martial arts style and Angel his Lovebot! Paul, played by Craig, is a master of hand-to-hand combat, and not too shabby with a gun either. Paul has a list of flaws and defects a mile long; he's a fightin' type, short tempered, greedy, the list truely goes on forever. He had so many flaws at one point Dan had to point out that by the rules a character can only have so many. Paul fears pretty much nothing in the verse, not even Reevers; he doesn't much care for Ryan's rat however. In a particular adventure Ryan was trying to figure out what the blue stuff did and tested it on a Rat, and everytime Paul is around the Rat he begins to think of cheese, and that disturbs him.
The final thing that Paul has going for him is that he's a sensitive, meaning he has the ability to pick up on the feelings and thoughts of others. He hasn't mastered the talent yet, but it has served him well on several occasions.
Come back tomorrow for a double dose of character goodness with Cole Smith and Yarp!
Today we meet Joe Redhawk, played oddly enough by our own, Joe. Redhawk is a man with a past, a dark, aweful past that is full of horrible deeds and rotteness. He just can't remember any of it. Redhawk suffers from amnesia and although we keep running in to folks who know the things he's done, nothing has caused him to regain any recollection of it. The things he does know? Well he knows how to lie and act and he's a dead-eye with his machine pistols.
Redhawk is a constant source of entertainment for Dan who delights is creating more and more mystery around the character.
Come back tomorrow and meet Paul Kulin!
Our Serenity campaign actually started before we decided to do the pod, and we had a great time playing it. Dan really finds his place at the table when he's GMing and we're all the better for it. In our first campaign our characters were all new inmates at a prison; each of us had a dark spot in our past that had landed us there. Needless to say, we didn't stay prisoners for long; we busted out, fought Reevers, and got in to a whole bunch of trouble up to and including stealing a criminal business man's identity and a freighter loaded with a dangerous virus hidden inside its fuel cells.
My character, Ryan "Domino" Jacobs, is the ship's ace pilot, doctor, and mechanic. A man of more brains than brawn, Ryan fought on both sides durring the war between the Alliance and the Browncoats. He started off in the Alliance as a fighter pilot, but jumped sides midway through the war to become a Browncoat. This is how he earned the call sign Domino, because he played both sides.
When Ryan isn't flying the crew out of trouble, he's usually patching up their wounds. Not one much for brawling, Ryan will quickly draw his gun out and shoot to kill if he feels threatend, because he knows if he's caught in the thick of a bad fight, he won't last long unless he's in the pilot's chair. His medical expertise allowed him to discover the source of the Reever virus and his prised posession is a bottle of "blue stuff" that the men with blue hands are after. Ryan isn't sure what it does, but he's hoping to find out.
Come back tomorrow and meet the next crew member Joe Redhawk!
Meet Ebert, Mage of the Void. In Star Storm, all users of magic pay tribute to the void. The void contains Cthulu-style monsters and is very dangers, but hell so is magic! And just because to derive your power from such darkness, doesn't mean you're an evil person, you just have to respect it. Dan plays Ebert pretty well and he and Joe's character have some fun moments. I believe the random flaw Dan chose was being completely loyal to a particular faith, and being as he follows the darkness of the void, it works out for him.
Meet Justin's character...that we can't remember the name of. He had a name, but we lost his character sheet, and he missed a few weeks of playing, and so we forgot his character's name. What's more important is what he is; he's a scout, with an angry edge. His character's complication is that he hates a particular race, which I believe are Lizard Men ( I thought for sure it'd be Bullywugs because he absoluted despises frogs). When Justin is present at the table look for an impulsive rogue with a sadistic edge. When he's not there, he makes a really fun plot device.
Update: While editing a pod, I discovered Justin's character's name. It's Carter!
Meet Zardoz Voidwalker, played by Joe. Zardoz is an outlaw priest, meaning he doesn't always tow the line of his church. He gets things done in his own way and time. This elven priest's drawback is that he has a niece/cousin/sister/I don't know what with him as part of the crew. I'm not sure if Joe ever fully decided his eact family relationship to this girl, but her name is Amanda and she is their Conduit.
Now the conduit is a device onboard all the ships floating through the void. Being as technology is so precious, and that advanced higher functioning tech is hard to rely on, because if it were to break, not many people know how to fix it. People in this world use psychic/sensitive people to opporate conduits. When using these devices the sensitive person can stretch out their mind and detect long range hazards, life signs, and even open communications with distant planets and places. Amanda performs this function for the crew, and it's Joe's duty as her relative to keep her safe and out of harms way.
Meet Synghyn Starrunner, played by Craig! Synghyn is a half-elf fighter who leads our intreppid band of salvagers in the Black Sea. Craig plays him fairly good hearted, but he got a blaster and he's not afraid to use it.
One of the things I told them was that energy weapons are extremely dangerous. They cause high damage and if fired on a ship they can easilly destroy vital systems or even breach the hull. And in a world where salvage is king, blowing holes in stuff isn't the best idea. That doesn't stop Synghyn from doing his thing though. He's a shoot first, answers are optional kind of guy.
I also had each of them draw a flaw or drawback out of a hat. Synghyn's flaw? He likes to live dangerously, even going as far as to risk his friend's lives. Perfect flaw for the guy who isn't afraid to fire his blaster in to melee.
Name: Daisy Chub
Motto: “The tighter the money, the tighter the dress”
Race: Halfling
Player: Dan
Our little Daisy is our party's thief and is played by Dan, who openly refuses to advance plot. Dan's motivation with Daisy is simple: If they don't have any money for me, fuck 'em. She's not the best thief out there, but she's all we got. You can follow Daisy's thoughts on Twitter, just search DaisyChub!
